A team behind the planned Aboyne Rural Hospice is hosting a kick-off event to provide information on the vision of the new hospice. A Wellington Advertiser news article from August 2022 indicates the hospice will provide Medical Aid in Dying (ie: euthanasia and assisted suicide) as a result of MAiD currently not accessible in Centre Wellington.
Guelph & Area Right to Life welcomes a new hospice in Aboyne but opposes the provision of MAiD.
Aboyne Rural Hospice is a necessary addition to Centre Welling but doctors killing patients is not and people who are being asked to support and fund this project need to know up front that provision of MAiD has been key in this planning.
We suggest the Centre Wellington community honor true hospice and keep MAiD removed from the Aboyne Rural Hospice.
“If you make active euthanasia a right, it soon becomes a duty. The patient, knowing that he or she can die by choice, will soon feel it incumbent to relieve relatives of the ‘burden’ of looking after them. When that stage is reached you have removed the patient’s choice.” - Dr Cecily Saunders, founder of the modern hospice movement.
We say yes to hospice and no to MAiD.
